Doll Wigging

I have a large selection of hand banded and hand-dyed Australian Angora Mohair fleece and Australian English Leicester wool fleece for all your hair and wigging requirements.
The mohair and wool that I buy is in its raw state. I then hand sort the fleece, wash it, hand dye it and then hand machine the fleece onto the band. Both the mohair and wool have a lovely crimp with a lustrous shine.
Suitable for Antique and Reproduction doll wigmakers, Cloth and felt doll makers and Reborns. Fleece can be bought as raw/washed/dyed/loose and banded.

Colours - All "Authentic Doll Wig" dyes used - Pale blonde, Blonde, Dark blonde, Strawberry blonde, Chestnut, Auburn, Copper, Brown, Dark Brown, Brown-Black, Black. Some colours from the "Landscape" dye range are also used.

A smoochy moment

A Champion

The Angora breed originated in what is now known as Turkey and was exported (with some difficulty) to many countries from the 1840's.

Mohair grows rapidly at about 2cm per month and is shorn every six months. The fibre ranges from about 23 microns at the first shearing, to as much as 38 microns in older animals.

First shearing usually goes into Fine Kid (FKID). Second Shearing usually goes to Kid (KID) and Strong Kid (SKID), Third shearing can go into Strong Kid and Young Goat (YG). Later shearings are usually Fine Fine Hair(FFH) and Fine Hair (FH).

Wool Fleece

This is also "Show" quality Australian English Leicester fleece. Available in a variety of widths from 5" up to 13". Hand-banded and hand-dyed wool fleece can be cut to any length you require. Prices start from $22.00/metre.

The English Leicester is an Australian Heritage sheep breed. English Leicester is one of the oldest known British breeds of sheep, having their origins in the English Midlands, developed by Robert Bakewell in the late 1700's.

Fleece is 32 - 40 Microns (40s-46s count). English Leicester wool is strong, lustrous and soft handling, popular with craft artists. It is dense, free, even and lustrous with a medium lock width, showing small, well defined wave or crimp from skin to tip.

The English Leicester is included in the breeds listed by Heritage Sheep Australia (founded 2002) in recognition of the breed's contribution to the foundation of the sheep and wool industry in Australia.

Care Instructions for your Banded Wool or Mohair

Please do not comb Wool or Mohair dry. It will certainly frizz and you will lose the lovely crimp.
The best way to style your fleece is to lightly dampen the hair. Using a spray bottle with either water and/or conditioner, lightly spray the fleece. It does not need to be saturated.
Combing:
Hold the top of the banding in one hand, and, using a wide-tooth rake comb, gently pass the rake comb thru the hair. This will bring the wave back. You will always get a small percentage of hair coming out and probably a knot or two.
To get bounce into the dampened locks, gently take handfuls of the fleece and crush all over with your hand.
Styling - Straightening and Curling:
If you want to style the wig on the doll, please make sure that you have covered the doll with a towel so that no moisture gets on the doll or any clothing.
To straighten the fleece, be sure to use a good Ionic straightener. This will not dry out the ends.
To curl the fleece, you can either curl it up using sponge curlers or rags for sausage curls. Make sure you put tissue paper on the ends of the hair so that the ends are not damaged. Plastic straws can also be used for those really super small dolls.
Or you can use a BaByliss Pro ionic hot curling tong. This is a really small curling tong suitable for dolls and gives lovely ringlets and curls.
